The .biz top-level domain (TLD) is a generic top-level domain and one of many used in the Domain Name System of the Internet. The .biz  is considered one of the OG domain extensions. The .biz extension is not as old as .com .net or .org but also, not new like the New TLD's such as .club, .xyz .group etc. 

The .biz TLD was created in 2001 as one of the early alternatives to the .com, for businesses that wanted a TLD specifically for commercial use. As you may already know, the term, biz, is short for business and as previously mentioned the .biz is intended for use by businesses. 

When the extension was first introduced, it was not wildly popular in the major business world and attracted scammers and spammers. However, the .biz extension has established some credibility and is not considered to be a spammy extension like it was in the past. 

It has also seemed to gain some traction in the small to mid-sized business world. The extension is open registration and anyone can register a .biz domain. The .biz TLD is currently operated and owned by GoDaddy.
